The banished, unwanted and abandoned always seem to find kinship amongst their fellow outcasts. However, the journey to reach the heart has claimed many lives and the fact of the monks' existence is subject to being only rumor and folklore. Monks seeking inner peace are often known to scale the mountain to reach a temple buried with the heart of the Peak. Since then, the Wailing Peak has remained silent. The hissing of the lava as it hit the frigid waters was said to have been heard from miles away. The Wailing Peak received its name for its sudden eruption many years ago. It stands as Olrun’s most identifying landmark, and its greatest challenge. Highest mountain in the Hjolfnarn mountain range, the Wailing Peak is an extinct volcano that stands above Olrun so high that it can be seen from 100km away. Passing through Hjlofnarn’s Throat is only the easier part of the journey north, however. The harsh winds whip snow and ice indiscriminately and have been known to bring down intense blizzards that have buried many unprepared travelers who dared to take their journey north. Passage through this narrow opening can prove itself to be very treacherous. There exists a small passage through the Hjlofnarn Mountains called Hjlofnarn’s Throat. This clearing houses the sleepy village of Fjolsta. At the edge of the clearing sits the Graystone Glacier, an alpine glacier that carves its way through the mountain, leaving a sizable valley that’s carved into the mountain range.

There sits a series of small kettle lakes called Graystone Lakes. The Shivering Forests house a large clearing at the foot of the Hjolfnarn Mountains. The Reidborn Fjord is considered to be the major coastal landmark that houses the port town of Feigrfold. Its beautiful waters lead out into the sea, allowing for travel during the summer and spring. The Reidbron Fjord sits on the Southernmost point in the Shivering Expanse. Due to how high the mountains reach, the only two methods of travel between Northern and Southern Olrun are via ship or by traveling through Hjlofnarn’s Throat. The Hjolfnarn Mountains are visible from just about everywhere in Olrun. This rocky ridge separates Northern Olrun from Southern Olrun. The Northernmost point of Olrun is cut off via a large mountain range. Passage via ships is entirely impossible during this time as many ships would run themselves aground and trap themselves until the ice melts in the spring and summer. During the winter, the archipelago is connected to the main island by a thick layer of ice on the waters. The beaches in the islands are rocky and covered in gravel. Walruses, penguins, and orcas are frequent residents in the frigid waters. The waters are treacherous here, grey beards smash against sailing vessels and icebergs float aimlessly across the surface. A frigid Archipelago marks the farthest point in the north ships can reach. On the Northernmost sea sits the Shattered Expanse. Many travelers often report sightings of Dire Wolves stalking them amongst the trees. The temperatures in this area remain below freezing, even during the summer as the forests are shrouded in an icy fog. As such, much of the snow begins to melt in the southernmost region but doesn’t in the northernmost region.Īlong the foot of the Hjolfnarn Mountains sits a thick forest of fir and spruce. In the summer, the temperature rises to 40☏ (4☌) in the southernmost regions and 15☏ (-9☌). The seasonal flurries move snow around, creating snow dunes and burying things in upwards of 12in (30cm) of snow. During the winter, The Shattered Expanse is connected by thick ice as the temperature drops to −30 ☏ (−35 ☌). Access to Northern Olrun is therefore limited to a small mountain pass called Hjlofnarn’s Throat. Olrun is home to the highest mountain range, the Hjlofnarn mountains, which divide Northern and Southern Olrun from the rest of the world.
